Created by philanthropist Ward Melville in 1941, Stony Brook Village is the first planned shopping center in the United States. The center offers national retail chains as well as quaint boutique shops and restaurants, activities, nature & more. Shops such as The Crushed Olive, Brew Cheese, Lakeside Wine Emotions, Chocolate Works and & Village Coffee Market offer complimentary tastings!

Discovery Wetland Cruises

Wetland Tours

The cruise begins at Stony Brook Marine Services at Stony Brook Harbor and travels into an 88 acre wetlands preserve.  Guided by a naturalist, guests will be amazed at the wildlife, vistas, serpentine creek and more. Group rates are available as well as full boat rental. Net Rates Available.

Operates May through October.


Stony Brook Grist Mill


This working mill is open any day by appointment for groups of 6 or more.  It boasts a charming country store and a “miller” dressed in period clothing will take you through the process of how grain was ground into flour in 1751 during the American Revolution and still is today. Property of the Ward Melville Heritage Organization and listed on the New York State and National Register of Historic Places. “Stony Brookside Bed & Bike Inn,” is steps away.  Net Rates Available.

Stony Brook Harbor Kayaking


Clients can enjoy scenic Stony Brook Harbor and its picturesque environs.  Ask about Paddleboard Yoga Classes and a Guided Kayak Wetlands Tour. Reservations required. Groups up to 10. Stony Brook Village Center Gardens



Held outdoors (weather permitting) on the Stony Brook Village Green; includes Yoga, Tai Chi, meditation sessions, Zumba classes and wellness experiences such as a demo with nutritionist from The Crushed Olive. In case of inclement weather, these will be held at the Educational & Cultural Center in the rear of the Stony Brook Village. Net Rates Available.
